Dead by Daylight and Friday the 13th have been the kings of the asymmetrical PVP horror game subgenre, but a new contender, Last Year: The Nightmare, has been preparing to enter the arena for a while now. Initially funded through Kickstarter back in 2014, the developers have been hard at work, impressing people with each development. Heck, lines to play the game at PAX East 2018 were even up to two hours long. So this new trailer feels rather celebratory, especially with the game finally due out this Fall. Of course, the celebration in this case involves a lot of teenagers being murdered, but still.
Set in 1996 and evoking the post-Scream slasher film boom, the game sees five teenagers suddenly trapped in the East Side High School campus, with no memory of how they got there. To make matters worse, a supernatural force is hunting them down, taking the forms of various killers. Players either try to hunt down the kids as the killer, or help the kids escape. Only hinted at during the end, though, is that the kids can actually fight back and destroy the killer.
Last Year: the Nightmare is due out this Fall, and uniquely, will be debuting on Discord. We first new Discord was testing the idea of a store with timed exclusive games in August, and now they’re ready for action. Other exclusive games include such titles as Sinner: Sacrifice for Redemption and At Sundown, among others. It looks like Last Year: The Nightmare will be alongside some choice company, and may even become the cream of the initial crop.
