Sony Interactive Entertainment head Shawn Layden confirmed that there’ll be no PlayStation Experience this year.
The annual event has been held in December each year since its inception in 2014. However, that streak comes to an end this year. There’ll be no PlayStation Experience in 2018 because Sony doesn’t have much to share right now.
Speaking on the latest PS Blogcast, Layden confirmed the news. His stated reason is that PlayStation doesn’t have much news they want to share at the moment. By having the event, Layden feared it would set expectations too high and PlayStation wouldn’t be able to deliver. With Spider-Man out now, Dreams later this year, and Days Gone early 2019, there’s not a lot to share. The Last of Us: Part II, Ghosts of Tsushima, and Death Stranding don’t have release dates.
It’s sad knowing there’ll be no PlayStation Experience this year. However, considering last year’s anemic showing, which contained no new announcements, it may be for the best.
