The NHL season officially started on Wednesday night and EA has promptly simulated the upcoming season in NHL 19. The Toronto Maple Leafs went all in this year with acquiring Center John Tavares, as the simulation panned out with them winning the Stanley Cup. The Maple Leafs also ended up with the top seed in the Eastern Conference. They were followed by the Tampa Bay Lightning, Boston Bruins, the defending champion Washington Capitals, Florida Panthers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Columbus Blue Jackets, and surprisingly the Buffalo Sabres.
In their second year, the Vegas Golden Knights would finish with the top seed in the Western Conference, but it was the San Jose Sharks that would represent the West in the Stanley Cup as the number two seed. They were followed by the Winnipeg Jets, Nashville Predators, St. Louis Blues, Anaheim Ducks, Los Angeles Kings and Dallas Stars. It is fitting that the two teams that had the biggest offseason acquisitions (Toronto with Tavares and the Sharks with Erik Karlsson) would meet for the championship.
As for award winners, Tavares would take home the Conn Smythe Trophy while Connor McDavid ran away with three: Hart Memorial Trophy, Art Ross Trophy and the Ted Lindsay Trophy. The Vezina, which is for best goalie, went to Sergei Bobrovsky of the Columbus Blue Jackets. You can check out the cumulative video below and also check out our review of NHL 19 here.
