The Black Market Returns in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4

Actvision and Treyarch today announced the return of the Black Market.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 launched a week ago with no sign of the Black Market or microtransactions. However, starting today on PS4, the Black Market is back. It has gone through a huge overhaul since it was last seen in Black Ops III.

Content is broken down into streams that provide a progression path to earn items just by playing. The Contraband stream contains numerous items that are delivered through seasonal Operations, which are released every few months. Operation First Strike delivers the first batch of content today on PS4. Unfortunately, Xbox One and PC owners need to wait a full week before getting a shot at the content.

The stream includes new content like Blackout characters, signature weapons, and Specialist outfits. It’ll also contain a lot of filler, including sprays and gestures. At this point, it does not appear like there’s any RNG mechanics such as Supply Drops.

Starting October 20 on PS4, a Halloween-themed Special Event kicks off. During events, a special themed stream of items can be earned just by playing the games. Much like Call of Duty: WWII, Treyarch promises that there are plenty of special events planned through the next year. However, once the event ends, the items disappear forever.

As for microtransactions, it looks they aren’t arriving till November. Blackjack’s Shop goes online in November where players can direct purchase certain pieces of gear. Once again, it doesn’t sound like Supply Drops are returning, but this is something we’ll have to wait and see.

Black Market is live today on PS4. It’ll launch on Xbox One and PC October 26.
