Rockstar Games today announced that Red Dead Redemption 2 has broken some sales records.
Red Dead Redemption 2 holds the record for the single-biggest opening weekend in entertainment history. This factors in film, TV, and other forms of entertainment. The game brought in over $725 million in it’s first three days, which makes it the second-highest grossing entertainment launch of all time. The number one spot remains with Grand Theft Auto V, another Rockstar title that grossed over $1 billion in its first three days.
While Red Dead Redemption 2 may have fallen short there, it more than made up for it. To date, it is the single-biggest entertainment launch of 2018, beating out Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, Far Cry 5 and Avengers: Infinity War. The game also set new records on PlayStation Network. According to Sony, it holds the record for most pre-ordered full game, biggest day one full game sales, and biggest first three days full game sales ever.
Red Dead Redemption 2 takes place before the events of the original game. The game follows Arthur Morgan and Van der Linde gang following a botched robbery. With federal agents on their heels and divisions within the gang threatening to tear it apart, Arthur must make a stand. In the dying days of the outlaw age, you must choose where you stand
Red Dead Redemption 2 is available now on PS4 and Xbox One.
