Path of Exile fans are going to have a whole new world of choices open to them come December. Path of Exile: Betrayal is coming, and it’s bringing a bit more with it than just another campaign. It’s campaign does sound pretty cool though. In this expansion, Jun Ortoi is investigating a recently emerged organization known as the Immortal Syndicate. They’re wreaking havoc in the world, as shady syndicates do, and it’s up to the player to help Jun bring them down.
Path of Exile: Betrayal introduces a new mastercrafting system, which emphasizes completing specific content rather than blindly grinding master levels. Additionally, players can also acquire new “veiled items,” which allow players to choose their inherent properties. The star of this expansion has to be the Immortal Syndicate itself though. In order to reveal its masters, players will have to do everything in their power to manipulate the lower members into divulging the organization’s secrets. Sometimes this will mean simple bribery, but other circumstances will require more drastic measures like interrogations or even executions.
Different methods prompt different responses. Sometimes syndicate members will rat out their friends without a second thought, and sometimes their friends will swoop in to lend a helping hand. Some will even ally with the player in order to take down a rival. Events play out according to player choices and the other character’s personality, so it’s up to the player to figure out which course of action will yield their desired outcome. There’s plenty more to be seen in Path of Exile: Betrayal though; even more details can be found on the official website.
Path of Exile: Betrayal launches for PC on December 7, Xbox One on December 10 and PlayStation 4 in mid-December.
