Niantic and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today dropped the first details for their upcoming AR mobile game, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite.
Niantic, best known for Pokemon Go, teased Harry Potter: Wizards Unite late last year. At the time, but the studio promised players would use their mobile devices to locate fantastic beasts and participate in wizard duels. Today, we now have more details about the game.
The game follows a ‘calamity’ that has befallen the wizarding world. Artifacts, creatures, people, and memories are mysteriously appearing around the Muggle world and threatening to expose the world’s secrets. You play as a recruit of the Statute of Secrecy Task Force and charged with tracking down these items and discovering the source of The Calamity.
Much like Pokemon Go, players explore the world using their mobile devices to find traces of magic. Find them at real-world locations such as parks, banks, libraries, monuments, and stores. Cast spells to overcome Confoundable magic and return the magical items. Stop by Inns on the map to replenish Spell Energy. Finally, discover Portmanteaus, which unlock special Portkeys that’ll transport you to iconic locations, including Ollivander’s Wand Shop.
Visit Fortresses if you want a more action-oriented experience. Here you can participate in Wizarding Challenges, real-time multiplayer battles against dangerous foes. Team up with friends or battle alone and be prepared to face off against the likes of Death Eaters and Dementors.
Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is out sometime in 2019 for iOS and Android devices.
