Konami officially turns 50 tomorrow — founded March 21, 1969 — but they haven’t waited for the big day to reveal that the developer/publisher is planning to gather together games from the company’s past into three separate bundles, dubbed the Anniversary Collection. Coming in the form of the Arcade Classics, a Castlevania-focused collection as well as Contra getting its own series too, it sees gaming greats from Konami’s past on top of all its other original properties and series, releasing across PS4, Xbox One, Switch & PC (via Steam).
The Arcade Classics will release first on April 19, and includes eight arcade-original titles, including the original Gradius — considered one of the shm’up genre’s best and most popular IP’s. Other titles come in the form of Haunted Castle, A-Jax, Gradius II, Salamander, Thunder Cross, Scramble & TwinBee. A digital “bonus book” will also be included which includes behind-the-scenes insights and interviews with the original teams behind the games.
Moving onto the Castlevania collection, the first four entries in the series — Castlevania, Castlevania II: Belmont’s Revenge, Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse and Super Castlevania IV — will be bundled alongside four still-to-be-announced titles. The same applies for the Contra collection with the original, Super Contra, Contra C and Contra III: The Alien Wars also sitting alongside four unannounced entires. Both the Castlevania and Contra collection will release sometime this summer. All three bundles are digital only.
